Steel building cost is determined by a number of different and very important factors, as is true for other types of purchases. Often, in the case of large purchases such as a building would be, many aspects of cost become relative, ie. they might seem to be large amounts, but once they are considered within the overall purchase, it is immediately apparent that the value truly exceeds the actual amount, and often by far.
The general determination of steel building cost is based first of all on the specific design of the building, the size and proportions of the structure, and whether all the desired features are standard order. If the purchaser desires special features that have to be specially constructed or fitted, this causes the cost to vary, usually in the upward direction.
Another factor important to steel building cost relates to the fact that much of the work is already done by the time the building actually appears on the owner’s sales or purchase records. The details of which materials to use, how to design the building and other engineering questions have largely been taken care of before purchase. Even the instructions for erection and placement have also been considered and to a large degree prepared and made ready for the prospective owner.
